I'll be teaching a basic Copic marker class this Saturday, the 17th, at Paper Crown in Oklahoma City. The class is from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and will give you all the information you need to start coloring effectively with Copics. You will learn the purpose of all those letter/number combinations on the markers and why Copic users never call the markers by their color name....they always use the letter/number combo. You will learn blending and feathering techniques and how to blend within a color family as well as how to blend colors from different color families. I will show you how to refill your pens and all sorts of uses for Copics on surfaces other than paper. Cindy has started carrying Copics in the store so if you've been curious about them this is the time to come in and find out exactly why they are so great. You can get amazing professional results easily and quickly. They are the most versatile medium I've ever used. They work nicely with other mediums as well and I will go over how best to mix them with other media. What will damage them and what will not. We will discuss how to color large areas without streaking and how to get beautiful skin tones. We will go over shading and how to decide where your shadows should be based on where your light source is coming from. Lots of great information and, as always, lots of fun. I love teaching at Paper Crown!
Your kit will include lots on internet resources for further learning. A chart showing all the Copic colors available and a blank chart for you to begin coloring in with each marker when you purchase. I will show you how valuable that blank chart is not only for organization and having a good grasp of the colors you have and the colors you need, but also how I use it every time I pick up my markers to color anything. I will bring all the beautiful rubber stamps I have collected over the years that are IDEALLY suited for Copic coloring. Plus, I am including 5 or 6 coloring pages that are original drawings by me:)
You can call the store at 405-848-2389 to reserve a spot. If you're taking the class here is a list of what you might want to bring:
All your Copic markers (don't worry if you haven't yet acquired a bunch of markers)
A Copic colorless blender (don't worry if you don't have one, but you will definitely want to have one sooner rather than later)....also note they are not for blending at all. I will demonstrate their many uses.
Waterproof black liner pens such as Micron, Pitt or Copic Multiliners
The basic crafty tools you bring to all classes
Any of your own rubber stamps you would like to color with the markers
Any cardstocks or papers you would like to test using the Copics (they react a wide range of ways with differing papers)
Waterproof black ink pads if you happen to have them (do not buy one for this class). NO STAZ-ON or solvent inks...they do not work with Copics.
I think that about covers it. If you have any questions, email me at [email protected] or call Cindy at the store. Hope to see you on Saturday!!
