I know I'm going to have major withdrawals after Christmas when I no longer have a gift to open with my latte. I wonder if it's feasible to have an ongoing, year-round swap like this?? I would encourage everyone to round up a group of 12 friends and do a swap like this next year. Of course, you need an energetic, git-r-dun type hostess like Heather and it was nice that Shosh lives close enough to drive over and help her distribute and pack them. I know dozens of energetic bloggers so that shouldn't be a problem. I could NEVER host this kind of swap. It would have been spring before I got them all shipped out.
Day 3 is from Shoshanah Jennings. She has a wonderful shop called Hannah Grey Curiosities & Drygoods. If you're not familiar with her excellent work be sure to check it out. First of all I love the way she wrapped this package. She did the flocking herself. As I began to open it, I realized she also made the box. Wow. It's meticulous too. Not a single bit of unevenness anywhere. Amazing.
What's inside was hard for me to photograph. I carted it to every room in the house to see where I could get the best light. I should have taken my background paper with me but I was too lazy. This picture is the best I could do. It's pretty darn good, but I don't know if it will be as good on the blog. I'm hoping. It's a baby spoon that she has cut off and shaped meticulously into a hanger for the ball chain. The spoon has a ledger paper background with a dimensional ivory acorn in the center. All encased to perfection with resin. Most spectacular! Thank you so much Shosh!
*****Here's an editorial addition to explain the materials Shosh actually used. The spoon is and old stock souvenir spoon, the ledger paper is from the 1800's (I knew it was authentic...you can just tell) and the acorn is vintage German glass! I absolutely love it. I have all the stuff and a book to do resin, but I keep forgetting about it. Imagine that. I'm sure I'd screw it up anyway.
If she had thrown a bird and some flocked paper in that baby you would have been all a twitter! That's very cool. Remind me to ask you about all the big artist talk, when I talk to you 'cause I have some questions.
*****Like you really care William. Wiki it!
